Sasol Chemicals' Dr. Dirk Schär recently participated in an online seminar showcasing the company's participation in the CARE-O-SENE research project, a joint effort between Germany and South Africa to develop catalysts that can be used to drive commercial-scale green kerosene production for use in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Dr. Schär is Technical Manager Marketing and Sales Catalysts for Sasol Germany GmbH and co-lead of the CARE-O-SENE project.  He was joined on the webinar by Dr. Tobias Sontheimer, Head of the Strategy Department for Energy and Information at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, who also serves as co-lead for the three-year, €40 million CARE-O-SENE project. 

Dr Schär highlighted the goal of maximizing kerosene yields to overcome production barriers, stressing that catalyst optimization is crucial for efficient and cost-effective SAF production.  Dr. Sontheimer discussed the importance of industry and public sector collaboration.
