At Sasol, innovation, customer collaboration go hand-in-hand

Customer collaboration plays a vital role in Sasol Chemical’s innovation.  Understanding customer problems – and helping to solve them – is one of the ways we deliver value.

It was a customer request that led to the development of Sasol’s new MARLINAT K 23M, a spacer fluid for use in oilfield drilling.  The customer needed a better performing spacer fluid – used to separate two different types of special purpose liquids during the drilling process – for its operations in the North Sea, which strict environmental regulations around fluid toxicity and biodegradation are enforced.

That initial discussion eventually led to a powerful combined effort to find a solution, with close cooperation between Sasol’s research and development team and the customer’s engineering staff.  Together, the teams created and tested MARLINAT K 23M, ensuring that the product could meet the customer’s technical and environmental needs.

After a successful test, Sasol Chemicals began producing the product on a commercial scale at its facility in Marl, Germany.

Today, MARLINAT K 23M is used in Norway, the UK and the Netherlands, as well as in operations in the Mediterranean Sea and off coast of West Africa – an example of how Sasol’s proven strengths in chemistry and customer service are making a difference around the world.
