Beyond Plate Count: Evaluating Alcohol Ethoxylates in Hand Diswashing Formulations

The updated IKW recommendation introduces two additional standardized, practice-oriented test methods alongside the traditional plate test, enabling a more comprehensive evaluation of hand dishwashing detergents. While formulations are typically based on anionic and amphoteric surfactants, this study explores the potential of nonionic surfactants, particularly alcohol ethoxylates, which are widely used in hard surface cleaning. Using the new test methods, their impact on grease removal and foam performance is systematically assessed and benchmarked against market-standard formulations to determine their relevance for future detergent development.

Between Structure and Performance: How EO Distribution Shapes the Behavior of Alcohol

Alcohol ethoxylates are widely used nonionic surfactants whose performance can be influenced by the distribution of ethylene oxide (EO) chain lengths resulting from the ethoxylation process. To better understand the impact of EO distribution, Sasol conducted a comprehensive study combining physicochemical characterization and application testing across detergents, hard surface cleaners, and fragrance solubilizers. The findings provide valuable insights into how EO distribution affects key performance properties and support the selection of the most suitable surfactants for specific formulation requirements.

PARAFOL 10 RSPO-MB: The biobased and biodegradable answer to highly volatile silicone oils and isododecane

As demand for silicone-free and more sustainable personal care formulations continues to grow, Sasol’s PARAFOL range of fully biobased, COSMOS-certified alkanes offers an attractive alternative to volatile silicones and petrochemical-based ingredients. This presentation highlights the performance of the new IECIC-compliant PARAFOL 10 RSPO-MB, which delivers exceptional spreading, volatility, and an ultra-light, silky sensory profile comparable to highly volatile silicones. The talk also explores the broader PARAFOL portfolio and demonstrates how PARAFOL 10 RSPO-MB can be used to develop advanced hair conditioning formulations with strong sustainability credentials.
