Our colleagues in China are pushing ahead with green power: At the Nanjing plant in eastern China, some 300 km from Shanghai, a large part of the annual demand is covered by green power. Our colleagues are working hard to meet this demand exclusively with environmentally friendly electricity from wind, solar and hydro power.
“We are aiming to improve the energy efficiency continuously. We transform our utilities to green ones as far as we can for the environment and to provide our customers with less carbon footprint products,” says Hongxing Shentu, Vice President Operations Sasol China.
“The implementation of our strategies marks a significant step towards environmental stewardship and sustainability. By expanding our reliance on renewable sources, we not only enhance our energy cost-effectiveness but also contribute to the broader goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We are committed to produce for a cleaner, more sustainable future and underscore our role as a conscientious participant in the global effort to combat climate change.”
On the long-term Sasol China aims to convert to 100 percent renewable energy. The progress depends on several factors such as the availability of green electricity in the market, the authority requirement, Sasol Limited requirement, the additional cost of green electricity procurement and the demand of low-carbon footprint products from the market. Hongxing Shentu resumes: “The first big steps have been taken and we will continue on the path towards a better world.”
